Dr. Darla Meek serves as Assistant Head of the School of Music and Coordinator of Music Education at East Texas A&M University, teaching undergraduate and graduate music education classes and supervising student teachers. She was named to the Texas A&M System Chancellor's Academy of Teacher Educators in 2025.
Dr. Meek holds the Bachelor of Music Education from Dallas Baptist University, the Master of Music from Southern Methodist University, and the Doctor of Education in Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction from East Texas A&M University. She also earned a Performer’s Certificate from the Performing Artist’s Musical Theatre Conservatory in Dallas. Certified in both the Kodály and Orff Schulwerk approaches, Dr. Meek serves as a teacher trainer for the American Orff Schulwerk Association in both Basic Pedagogy I and Movement for Orff Schulwerk Levels courses. She enjoys conducting elementary honor and festival choirs. Dr. Meek has written children’s choir curricula for Lifeway Christian Resources and Celebrating Grace, Inc. Her resources for elementary music specialists, Journey Around the Globe with Recorder! Flight 2: Another Journey Around the Globe with Recorder! and It’s Music to Their Ears! Movement-Based Listening Lessons for the Music Classroom were published by Sweet Pipes, Inc. A resource for church musicians, All Things Bright and Beautiful, is available through Choristers Guild, Inc. Her articles have appeared in The Orff Echo, Reverberations, The Chorister, Southwestern Musician, The Encounter, Playful Ponderings (IPA/USA), and Kodály Envoy and she contributed to the Alfred, Inc. publication Kaleidoscope. She presents sessions for teachers at conferences and workshops at the district, regional, state, and national levels. Dr. Meek is a member of several professional organizations in addition to AOSA, including the Organization of American Kodály Educators, the Kodály Educators of Texas (Higher Education Liaison), the Texas Music Educators Association (Region III College Chair), the Texas Choral Directors Association, the Dalcroze Society of America, the Gordon Institute of Music Learning, and the National Association for Music Education (sponsor of the ETAMU Collegiate Chapter).
