We will participate in demonstration lessons involving singing, playing instruments, dramatizing, and playing games while learning the basics of music reading. Small group time is focused learning time! It is the perfect opportunity for children to get personal attention and immediate feedback while learning musical and spiritual concepts. Often in children’s choir rehearsals the transmission of music material moves only from the teacher to the children. In this session, learn how to guide your choristers to create their own melodies, rhythms, movement, body percussion, and accompaniments. These techniques work well with a wide span of ages (1-6th graders) and using any style of music. Classroom management issues will be addressed. In this session, we will cover posture, breathing, vowel formation, and production of a beautiful tone. You will leave with some excellent warm ups and body energizers, song teaching tips, criteria for choosing pieces that are conducive to healthful singing, and a list of resources. Someone very wise once said, "The music will show you how it wants to be taught." Learn how to analyze your anthems and some creative ways to teach them to children. |
